OVERVIEW: The goal of the new advancement professionals’ workshop
is to provide an interactive and dynamic learning environment
for our participants. The workshop will be beneficial
for professionals 1 – 3 years into their Advancement
roles, as well as, professionals new to higher education
and/or those transitioning within Advancement. The
workshop was designed to allow for maximum communication
and interaction between newcomers and veteran professionals.
The hope is that each participant leaves the session
with a basic understanding of the fundamentals of each
of the advancement functional areas (Alumni Relations/Communications/Advancement
Services/Development), an understanding of how to navigate
the higher education landscape, and with several new
contacts he/she can call on in the future for assistance
and resources.
ORGANIZATION OF THE WORKSHOP: The
day will be split into functional and cross-functional
aspects. As participants arrive, we will gather as
a group to gain a general overview of the Advancement
profession. That will be followed by lunch and more
detailed discussions about ethics and career management.
The plan is for each of our newcomers to meet other
newcomers from varying disciplines and for them to
have the opportunity to meet other more seasoned professionals
as well.
